Xat’s Power 61 Announced

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

This morning, about an hour ago, Xat officially announced that power 61 will be Temporary member. That power is now is testing and we should soon have more details on how exactly it works. On a similar note, Xat has also announced plans to change the way Temp Mod works.

Stay tuned for that!

Update 1 : Power 61, like tempmod, is used by private chatting a user. To “temp member” a user simply type /mb5.0 to make him a temporary member (5.0 being the number of hours). Note that with a few limitations, this power is for and can only by used by Main owners, owners, moderators and tempmods.

Limitations include and are particular to tempmods. Tempmods are able to both make temporary members (but only for one hour) and also guest any temporary members.

Best Stick Animation Purple Contest – Update!

Monday, January 18th, 2010

How long does it take to sort through and watch 527 Stick entries? About 4 hours!

Right off, thank you to everyone that participated in and/or mentioned the Stick animation contest to someone else. We had a pretty good turnout and it was actually kind of fun to go through all the entries. Surprisingly, there was only one “pornographic” entry labeled “cleaning” – cute! :) I won’t erase it.

Anyway here is some preliminary data while we now wait for Xat.com to make some decisions:

We started with a total 527 entries (English and Spanish combined). Two hours later that number was reduced to 95; primarily discarding those animations that were either too jerky, jumpy, or simple. We tried to focus more on those animations that tended to be smoother more unique or creative. About an hour later we reduced the number of possibles again, this time down to 43; it was getting harder and harder to eliminate. 15 minutes later we again reduced the number but this time only to 30. Our last and final elimination round, some 15 minutes later, brought the number down to 27 and well, we quit! LOL! It just got too hard to decide beyond this point and we’d rather hand it off to Xat.com so that they have some variety to choose from.

More stats:
Xatworld entries: 374
Mundoxat entries: 153

Longest entry goes to Ryan (English) with a whopping 1982 characters!

We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear from Xat and we’ll post the final 27 along with the winner. Thanks again everyone and good luck to all of you!

Xat Changes Superkick Smile

Monday, January 11th, 2010

xat smiles

XatBlogs.com user Kyle, was the first to pickup on Xat’s new Superkick smile.

This, more than likely has something to do with Xat’s scheduled smiley overhaul that we mentioned last year.

Here’s a partial animation of the new Superkick smile:

Emerging Details on Xat’s DX power

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Leave it to xatBlogs.com users to come up with more details on DX. Viren, was witness to and posted the DX power smile and xatBlogs user Rain has an interesting screenshot of a DX power kiss.

Thank you to the both of you for contributing!

xatBlogs.com hits 500 users – almost!

Friday, January 8th, 2010

xat blogs

Yes we know, we said we would report back when xatBlogs.com reached its 1,000th user, but since they hit 500 so fast that we couldn’t help ourselves.

As of this post Xat Blogs current member count stands at just 2 users shy of its 500th xat blogs user.

Having said that, we really will follow up when Xat Blogs hits 1,000 users! In the meantime, keep your eye on the xatBlogs website, the fastest growing site for Xat bloggers, for the very latest in Xat info and contests. Oh, and if you still haven’t reserved your xatBlogs blog/username, get it here before someone else does.

Xat Secretly Working on Stricter Banning Option

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

xat stricter banning

A few minutes ago we were alerted to something that we haven’t seen before. A new option called “Stricter Banning” that, although currently visible on the “Extra chatbox features, Extra options page”, still can’t be activated. Mousing over this option we can see the following tag:

“Try to stop unbanning (note may ban innocent people)”.

This looks to be an answer to people constantly unbanning themselves (perhaps by changing IP). Anyway, until the option actually takes hold, we have no way of trying it out or even knowing for sure. Btw, to get to it, EDIT your chatbox, then click CHAT BOX SETTINGS.

Stay tuned for more info! Someone Xat blogger is bound to come up with some more details on xatBlogs.com. Keep an eye out for it.

Credit goes to Noctambulo (you all know who he is *wink*) for pointing it out.

Update: This feature is “rumored” to take closer notice at chat bans. If one particular IP is banned, then banned again (assuming here that the same user unbans, resets his IP, and returns to the chat), this feature will block an IP range; which explains the blurb about taking out “innocent people” – credit goes to Phsycical from his interaction with Xat staff a few months back when “Stricter banning” was just an idea.

DX Released to Testers + Rumors!

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

xat dx

Just before the new year we posted what we thought DX might be. This morning a xatBlogs user pointed out that 42 had given the new DX power to two testers. After some observation and scrutiny on our part, we’re leaning even more now in the direction of a xat to days converter.

Here are a few more things we picked up on this morning:

1. Once the DX power is used, you lose it. This could be thought of as an ATM processing fee.

2. If you have two DX’s and you “use the process” once, you will lose DX. If you do it again, you’ll lose the other. Again, if you look at DX as a processing fee, it “fits”.

3. Asked “Are you going to sell DX” a tester replied no, because “I am spending the power”. Spending it on what? On converting xats to days maybe?

So… Any guesses?

Update: give Xatland’s DX blog post a read for more details. Xatland, headed by Brian (a Xat.com tester and longtime volunteer) has more details that probably anyone right now.
