So there I am, minding my own business, doing what car passengers typically do; ummm, not a whole lot. We’ve got a red light, an unsettling feeling hits me, and I quietly think to myself “X-A-T”; not really understanding why. Light turns green, as we pull away I do a quick double take, and manage to snap a picture of this…

Mate (pronounced Mah-teh), a popular drink amongst South Americans, has finally made its way to Xat in the form of a Smiley (mate) by way of user suggestion.
Those unfamiliar with the beverage can simply imagine a hollowed out gourd filled with a dried herb. Hot water is poured into the gourd and it’s contents are then sipped through a metal straw called a “bombilla”. More than just a drink, mate is often served in gatherings of two or more people (primarily as an excuse to socialize); each taking their turn (yes with the same straw!) as the mate emptied, topped off, and passed around.
Those wanting to try out the new smiley can either head on over to the Xat test chat (AS3 needed) and type (mate) or play around with the Xatworld smiley generator.
Nice to see Xat making everyone happy!

Users that follow our Xat blog will recall our post on Xat’s planned smiley overhaul; brought on in effect by Xat migrating to Action Script 3. Last weeks unscheduled testing of new smilies removed the shroud on just a few of Xat’s newest AS3 features. Of course, with any new platform, glitches, bugs, and various surprises are bound to exist.
Enter Xat.com with an interesting proposal. Users that are willing to help document and point out suspected glitches, will be rewarded for their efforts in cold hard xats. You heard right! Depending on the severity and or complexity of each find, users can expect to receive anywhere between 50 and 500 xats. Just be sure and check the Xat “Help us test” Wiki for more specific details and information.

For a very limited time Xat short names (those registered ID’s that are less than 10 characters in length) are being offered at half off.
xatBlogs.com user Spellchecker (yep he’s back!) posted the great news only minutes after Xat’s own twitter feed had been updated. Anyway, if you’ve ever thought of getting a short name, now would be the time to do it; the special last this weekend only.

A few users have mentioned seeing a glitch that allows Tempmem users to add partial (CD) functionality to any smiley. By partial, I mean the headphones only.
Required: Tempmem
How to: Purchase and activate Tempmem, then add “#cd” to the end on any smiley code (i.e. (smile#cd), (mad#cd), (omg#cd), (maniac#cd))
Examples:

If you have any other information, feel free to comment below.
Thanks!
Update: Blue, xatBlogs member, was quick to point out that this isn’t the only Tempmem glitch. You can also add a night cap to any yellow smiley by appending “#sleep” to the end of your smile code. (i.e. (smile#sleep)

Update: One more, you can also add a friendster sign to any yellow smiley by appending “#fs” to the end of your smile code. (i.e. (smile#fs)

We held off on this hoping to be able to be able to embed each animation right on the results page, but don’t want to keep everyone waiting, so here they are. Winner, runner-ups and honorable mentions of Stick animation contest can all be found here.

Xatblogs.com user Blue, has discovered a quicker way of booting abusive users to another chat.
Instead of entering the “Reason for kick” up top and then the “Group to boot to”, you can enter everything on one line in the “Reason for kick” box.
Example:
kickreason#chatgroup
There is no need to enter anything in the “Group to boot to” box. After that, simply click “Kick”.
If you like the idea, let Blue know on his own official xatBlogs.com blog. While you’re there, why not register at xatBlogs.com, the fastest growing community of Xat bloggers, .
