Preview of Xat’s SPACEBAN – a.k.a Xat Asteroids

A few moments ago, several of us were treated to an early viewing of Xat’s new SPACEBAN power in Xat’s own test chat. If you were following along yesterday, you’ll see that the following spaceban screenshot very closely mimics our “asteroids” prediction.

How it works…

Similar to snakeban, if you get “spacebanned”, you are required to play a game. You have a limited amount of time and ammo with which to shoot a given number of “moons”; amounts presumably vary according to your ban time.

This us currently being testing on Xat’s test chat.

 

Top 3 guesses at what Xat’s SPACEBAN may look like

While all of us anxiously wait for Xat’s spaceban release, we thought it might be fun to speculate as to what form the game might take.

Based on snakeban, here are screenshots of our top three guesses (all circa late 70′s early 80′s). If you have a really REALLY old arcade by your house or have ever fiddled around with an atari 2600 (try ebay) they may look familiar:

Note that these are guesses and we may be completely off :) . This is just for fun…

Xat SPACEBAN power (spaceban)

Xat’s soon to be released, next power, is SPACEBAN (spaceban). What we know so far about spaceban is that IT IS similar in function to snakeban. The actual gameplay will of course be changed. Per the Xat wiki:

“…The Spaceban power allows you to ban visitors in your chat and have them play a “space” game to get unbanned…”

We can only speculate as to what form the game will take. Perhaps a Xat version of Asteroids, Space Invaders, or Missle Command would be fitting given how far back they reached into the game vault for snakeban :) (note: that’s just a guess…).

Anyway, here are some of the associated spaceban hats that we’ve seen in use on Xat’s test chat:

For the rotating meteor pawn or hat, use (hat#hm)

For the rocket pawn or hat, use (hat#hr)

For the flashing space pawn or hat, use (hat#hs)

Note: All pawns/hats listed above require spaceban AND hat powers.

The official spaceban smiley animation can be seen on our xat smiley generator in addition to a spaceban smiley called moonb.

Keep in mind that Xat intends to release 1000 units this week followed by a 24 hour sale the following week. Ultimately the spaceban power will be set to limited status. We will follow-up with more detailed info on our twitter as we get it.

Xat’s new DANCE power (137)

Although not out yet ”DANCE, Xat’s latest power, appears to be another smiley power. News is spreading quickly and Xat has since Xat already has created the following 11 dance related smileys, we expect that they will be released soon:

Xat’s New Snakeban function

This morning we discovered that Xat had created a new feature (can anyone confirm whether it’s a feature or power?) called Snakeban. With it, banned users now have the opportunity to reenter the chat but only after participating in and successfully completing a snake-like game.

How does it work? Well, any snake-banned user will automatically be directed to this new feature. Banned users will be greeted by the usual “you’ve been banned” pop-up along with a regressive countdown alerting them to the start of the game.

You unban yourself simply by eating the 6 apples that appear on the chat screen without dying. If you die (hit a wall, eat yourself, etc…) a message will display and the game will restart. Until you complete the game (again, 6 apples), you will remain banned. Users that get their 6 apples will reenter the chat automatically and their game time will be displayed in seconds.

130 Epic? Definitely Maybe!

This morning we received word that Xat power 130 “might” be the next Epic power! In Xat’s own words, “130 might be an epic power…its not decided yet”. Xat newcomers are reminded that Epic powers are not a common occurrence here on Xat. Purple for example, Xat’s first epic power, was released over two years ago and Namecolor, Xat’s second and most recent epic, was released in September of last year.

GKPANDA (118) – Xat’s next group power

Xat’s new power 118, which has been named GKPANDA, has found a new home amongst Xat’s other gk’esque type smileys; (gkkitty)(gkbear)(gkaliens)(gkaoani) and now (GKPANDA). Cleary another group power, gkpanda contains “at least” the following 10 smilies:

(kphurt)
(kpjoy)

(kppaws)
(kppaws2)

The power smiley can be seen here (or below) and can be activated in your chats admin. Still no news on how much it will cost or if it will be limited. More gkpanda chatter here.

New Xat Power RANKPOOL

Xat’s latest power is rumored to be RANKPOOL.

What it does:
- users will be able to create private pools and set their entry permissions (i.e. accessible only by members, mods, owners, etc…)
- users will be able to edit the names of the first two pools

In this example, a user has created a private “mods only” pool (only open to mods and owners) and a public “main” pool (open to everyone).

From what we gather, private pools are only visible to those user ranks having permissions to enter said pool.
